Crafters For Saoirse

Please support my crafting challenge for Saoirse Domestic Violence Services

I'm raising funds for Saoirse Domestic Violence Services. This cause matters deeply to me – and I’d be so grateful if you could donate.

Saoirse is a charity close to my heart that helps women and children escape domestic violence.

All funds raised support Saoirse's life-saving and life-changing services – including refuge accommodation, 24/7 helpline, counselling, and children's services.

I hope you can help me by donating whatever you can. Thank you for supporting me and supporting Saoirse.

We Make Things. And We See Things. We Stand Together

Wednesday 13th May
Every week, women come through our door at the Three Sisters Women's Shed in Waterford. They come with knitting needles, crochet hooks, fabric, thread. They come from different countries, different languages, different lives. Some have been here for years. Some arrived recently. Some are still finding their feet.

What they all have in common is this: they needed somewhere safe to land.

We are a women's shed built around one idea — that migrant women, refugees, and expats deserve a space where they are welcomed without question, where they can build friendships, share skills, and simply breathe. Week after week, we sit together and we make things. And week after week, we hear things. Stories that remind us, if we ever needed reminding, that the home is not always the safest place to be.

Domestic abuse is an ongoing crisis in this country. Last year alone, An Garda Síochána responded to over 65,000 incidents — that is 1,250 every single week. One in four women in Ireland experiences abuse from a current or former partner. And roughly one in three will never tell a single person it is happening to them.

For the women we work with, those numbers can be even starker. Migrant and refugee women carry additional burdens that make leaving, or even speaking out, feel impossible. An immigration status tied to a partner. No family network nearby. Language barriers. Fear of what disclosure might cost them. These are not reasons to stay silent — but they are very real reasons why so many do.

This is the world our members live in. This is why we cannot simply sit with our knitting and say nothing.

The Craftaton is our way of doing something. It is a crafting event — come with whatever you're working on, or start something new — and every €2 on the door goes directly to Saoirse Domestic Violence Services, who are on the ground in this community every day supporting women and children who need help right now.

Bring your crochet. Bring your sewing. Bring a friend. And come stand with us.
