Chat commands

Set up !charity or !saoirse as a chat command on Twitch so your community can get your fundraising page link on demand.

Think about your privacy

add remove

Before you go live, check what’s visible on screen and in the background. Avoid sharing personal or identifying information such as:

  • Your full name
  • Address or location
  • Workplace or school details
  • Phone numbers or emails
  • Information about other people without their permission

Remember that livestreams are often recorded and can be viewed again later.

You never have to share personal experiences

add remove

You are under no obligation to explain why you’re supporting Saoirse Domestic Violence Services or to share personal experiences of domestic abuse.

If viewers ask, you can simply say something like:

“I’m fundraising because everyone deserves to feel safe and supported.”

If you do choose to talk about personal experiences, think in advance about what you feel comfortable sharing and what boundaries you want to keep.

Set clear chat rules

We recommend setting some simple community guidelines before your stream begins, such as:

  • Be respectful
  • No bullying, harassment or hate speech
  • No victim-blaming
  • Respect people’s boundaries
  • Listen to moderators

If someone behaves inappropriately, it’s okay to mute, block or ban them.

Ask a moderator to help

add remove

If possible, have a trusted friend or moderator keep an eye on chat while you stream. They can help remove inappropriate comments and support a positive atmosphere so you can focus on enjoying your challenge.

Be mindful of sensitive topics

Conversations about domestic abuse can sometimes be upsetting or triggering. If sensitive topics come up during your stream, consider giving viewers a brief content warning.

You are not expected to provide counselling or emotional support to viewers. If someone appears distressed, encourage them to contact Saoirse or appropriate support services in their area.

Take care of yourself

Long streams can be tiring. Remember to:

Take breaks
Drink water
Eat regularly
Move around and rest your eyes
End the stream if you need to

Your health and wellbeing are always more important than completing a challenge.

Stream responsibly
